AC Optomechanix was founded by Lennino Cacace in March 2006, anticipating his graduation as a master of science in mechanical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology in June 2006.
During his studies Lennino was fortunate to find cutting edge projects in the field of precision engineering and opto-mechanics for all three of his traineeships. He enjoyed project-based work in this field so much that he decided this should become his profession, preferably while maintaining the freedom of doing so in varying work environments. A one man company that would acquire assignments from high-tech companies seemed ideal; AC Optomechanix was born.
By now the first large assignment has been successfully completed: a novel optical distance measurement sensor with unprecedented specifications has been developed for TNO Opto-Mechanical Instrumentation. The sensor has been integrated in the NANOMEFOS machine , and is used for measurement of high-end freeform surfaces both internally as well as for third parties.
Lennino was asked by Professor Maarten Steinbuch to write a PhD thesis about the subject, on which he started work in the autumn of 2008. The thesis, which Lennino defended in December 2009, can be downloaded below. Also found below are download links for his CV, a reference letter from CSIRO’s Space Optics Group, and the motivation of the selection committee of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities, which granted him the Corus young talent graduation award for mechanical engineering and materials science.
